Interior Remodels

Major improvement here! The original room was dark because of heavy drapes, worn shag carpet and dark woodwork. The owners had excellent x-ray vision and brightened the room by refinishing the floors, re-facing the fireplace and painting.
Tip: If you are not a contractor with specialized skills but you are looking for a cosmetic fixer, look for "good bones" (structural stability and sound systems) and remember that everything else can change! Yes, it will be unattractive for a long time until your work is complete. |

Bella cucina! Read about the experience these homeowners had remodeling their kitchen:
"In 41 years of marriage, every home we have owned has had white walls. We brought color into our lives by updating the kitchen of our 1970 condo with warm Tuscany walls and butternut Thomasville cabinets from Home Depot.
My brother did the installation including new Pergo "hardwood" flooring. To save money we did our own painting including new crown moldings and baseboards.
The project took all summer but was time well spent. We love hanging out in this room now, imagining ourselves in Italy. I'm even learning to cook!" |
Landscaping

Yes, this is the same backyard! This land is primed for a future garden paradise. Dead grass and cracked asphalt were the two distinguishing characteristics of this yard in it's "before" state. The owner is finished with the grunt work and in the middle of the fun part: planting!
Tip: When you buy property that needs landscaping, plant first, and then unpack. While you are rearranging furniture indoors for the next year, your plants are maturing outside.
Fun: Drawing plans; sifting through seed catalogues, watching the garden grow.
No Fun: Sunburn, allergies, blackberry thorns, heavy labor. |
